Black Lives Matter :: Support Against Racism (Updated 06/04/20)

Note: This post will be continuously updated as we move forward.

UPDATED (06/04/20)

Beginning June 3rd we offered 100% of our sales towards a goal of $1000. Thanks to our customers we achieved our goal in less than 24 hours, and on June 4th we were able to match that goal by 200%. We split the funds evenly between the ACLU, NAACP, Black Lives Matter Fund, and The Minnesota Freed Fund. The amount of $750 was donated to each organization. The Midnight Society will always and forever show STRONG support against racism. We acknowledge that we have a responsibility to provide support either financially, through the donations we continue to make, as well as to continue to listen, learn, and do what is right by sharing awareness and support. We strongly encourage all of you to support the Black Community, stand with us against racism, and listen to their story.

ORIGINAL POST :: A Message from The Midnight Society (05.30.20)

“This weekend I was in the beginning stages of designing a celebration of accomplishments made throughout Japan in the 80s and 90s. The culture during this time has always inspired me through the artwork and technology. Meanwhile, in the background I watched and kept up with what began as a peaceful protest throughout the city of Charleston that I’ve lived in my entire life. I was immediately reminded of how strongly the Black Community has impacted and shaped me more than any other through music, design, fashion, and entertainment.

As a small child I watched videos of Jimmy Hendrix when I was learning guitar, as a teenager learning to DJ I studied Africa Bambaataa and Funkmaster Flex, and as a designer I continue to look up to Virgil Abloh and Pharrell Williams. I will continue to stand by the Black Community and show support until I leave this Earth, and I’ll continue to look up to them as I have since I was a child. I will never be able to truly know their injustice. I will however continue to do everything in my power as a human being and as a business owner to help and continue to learn in order to spread their message the best way I can...

I’m fearful for my friends and the communities across the country, and how they’ve been affected by the unreal ignorance of racism for centuries. The Midnight Society will always and forever show STRONG support against racism, and in the words of our friend @johnnycupcakes: “If you can’t acknowledge that black and white people are living a different experience in America then I cannot accept your money.” We could not agree more.

I acknowledge that I have a responsibility to provide support either financially, through the donations we continue to make to the ACLU and The Minnesota Freedom Fund, as well as to continue to listen, learn, and do what is right by sharing awareness and support. I urge other companies that have remained silent to do the same. The amount of empathy you can show to your community is more important than how many followers you have on social media. We strongly encourage all of you to support the Black Community, stand with us against racism, and listen to their story. Thank You.”
