This is a bit of a read so please stick with us. We want to be extremely clear about our reasonings surrounding this collection, and the steps we have taken to make sure we are able to do this the best way possible.
We have been tossing this idea around for about a week now, and there’s only one way we can logistically and in good conscience move forward on it. When the COVID-19 outbreak erupted outside of China I personally watched company after company release goods that were clearly profiting off of the pandemic, which we as a company and I personally am not okay with. Profiting off of a tragedy goes against everything we’ve built here at The Midnight Society, and that included producing masks. We did not want to disrupt a manufacturer who was producing masks, and potentially waste their time putting our designs on them for profit. However, we are now at a point where 90% of our suppliers have switched their production to masks to help combat the demand and curve the spread of COVID-19. This course of action we are 100% on board with. The CDC now recommends wearing non-medical masks in public when it's necessary to leave your home in order to pick up essentials (grocery store, pharmacy, etc.), and this we are VERY much on board with.
This isn’t a product we ever would have ever released outside of these unique times, but we collectively feel we’re in a unique position to be able to provide them directly from one of our trusted manufacturers not only to customers, but to those who are on the front line and need them. That being said, we have opted to produce non-medical masks that the CDC recommends people wear in public when leaving the house for essentials, and in doing so each mask sold gives us the opportunity to produce and donate three medical grade masks that we’ll be delivering to Roper Hospital here in Charleston, SC. (That’s something I can MOST DEFINITELY get on board with!)
The difficult part for us was determining the best way to possibly give back to our local community. We've crunched the numbers, and labeled the price of our Midnight Masks at $9.99 (We've seen companies with masks as high as $18). This price point will allow us to donate THREE Medical Masks for every Midnight Mask sold. Any remaining profit will be used to cover our shipping materials, and if we've calculated it right we should be able to order an extra 100 Medical Masks if all units are sold. As of right now, we have 100 Midnight Masks of each design on the way (300 in total), and we should have them in a few weeks so please be patient with us as we await their arrival. The reason we’re opening them up early to the public, and leaving them up is because the more of these that sell, the sooner we can order a potential 1000 Medical Masks, get them in and out the door to the people who need them most.
As always, take care of yourself first and foremost. If you can't afford a Midnight Mask, we encourage you to cover your face to the best of your ability when leaving the house for essential items.
Thank you so much for all the continued support.
